About Tampa Bay, Things to Do for your next Florida Vacation
The Tampa Bay area is a major tourist destination known for temperate weather and wide expanses of open beachfront along the Gulf Coast of Florida. Much of the area, like Clearwater Beach, St. Pete Beach, Anna Maria Island and Siesta Key, is known for its high quality sand beaches and waterfront views. The area is also home to many entertainment opportunities, such as the theme parks and attractions in Tampa and Orlando.
The Tampa Bay area offers a wide variety of vacation getaways with accommodations ranging from motels to luxury resorts. Perfect for a vacation that offers comfort while making the most of the beautiful Gulf Coast beaches at affordably priced rates.
The Tampa Bay area offers something for everyone. From the quiet and laid back islands of Siesta Key and Anna Maria Island, to the more vibrant atmosphere of Clearwater and St. Pete Beaches, your ideal beach vacation is here. Other activities include the zoo and thrill rides of Busch Gardens®, the Adventure Island® water park, Lowery Park Zoo, the Museum of Science and Industry, and the Florida Aquarium in Tampa. Tampa Bay is also the spring training home to many Major League Baseball Teams.
The largest event in Tampa Bay is the annual Gasparilla Pirate Festival held in late January, hosted by Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla and the City of Tampa, which includes a "pirate" fleet invading Tampa Bay, a parade and a street festival. Smaller Gasparilla events take place in the week before and after the main event. Coachman Park in Clearwater hosts the largest free-admission jazz festival in the Southeast every October; the Clearwater Jazz Holiday is a world-class gathering of the some of the greatest talents and attracting tens of thousands of the greatest fans of jazz.
The Gulf Coast beaches of Tampa Bay and the Sun Coast are perfect for swimming, surfing, or catching up on your tan. You can also find powerboat and sailboat rentals, as well as jetski rentals. The warm Gulf of Mexico waters are inviting for snorkeling and scuba diving. The sheltered waters of the bay itself and the Hillsborough River are great for canoes and kayaks as well.
While there is no true "off-season" in the Tampa Bay area for golfers, some seasons are not as crowded as others. The beautiful climate in west-central Florida is almost perfect year round, and the over 100 golf courses ensure a playable course for all.
