The Tampa Bay area is a major tourist destination known for temperate weather and wide expanses of open beachfront along the Gulf Coast of Florida. Much of the area, like Clearwater Beach, St. Pete Beach, Anna Maria Island and Siesta Key, is known for its high quality sand beaches and waterfront views. The area is also home to many entertainment opportunities, such as the theme parks and attractions in Tampa and Orlando.

Events

The largest event in Tampa Bay is the annual Gasparilla Pirate Festival held in late January, hosted by Ye Mystic Krewe of Gasparilla and the City of Tampa, which includes a "pirate" fleet invading Tampa Bay, a parade and a street festival. Smaller Gasparilla events take place in the week before and after the main event. Coachman Park in Clearwater hosts the largest free-admission jazz festival in the Southeast every October; the Clearwater Jazz Holiday is a world-class gathering of the some of the greatest talents and attracting tens of thousands of the greatest fans of jazz.


Water Sports

The Gulf Coast beaches of Tampa Bay and the Sun Coast are perfect for swimming, surfing, or catching up on your tan. You can also find powerboat and sailboat rentals, as well as jetski rentals. The warm Gulf of Mexico waters are inviting for snorkeling and scuba diving. The sheltered waters of the bay itself and the Hillsborough River are great for canoes and kayaks as well.


Golfing

While there is no true "off-season" in the Tampa Bay area for golfers, some seasons are not as crowded as others. The beautiful climate in west-central Florida is almost perfect year round, and the over 100 golf courses ensure a playable course for all.
